“Cycling Evening” gets off to a flying start

A sold-out opening night!

The Maison du Cyclisme could not have wished for a better start to its new “Cycling Evening” talk series. The event on 28 January was a great success, welcoming nearly sixty cycling enthusiasts who came to meet Maxime Monfort, currently a sports director with Lidl-Trek and a former top-level professional cyclist.

An evening full of lively discussion and passion

From the moment he arrived, Maxime Monfort generated the enthusiasm we had hoped for, filling the Maison du Cyclisme as expected.

With his characteristic warmth and down-to-earth manner, he began the evening with an informal chat with attendees before moving on to in-depth discussions.

Over two hours of fascinating conversation, he answered both our questions and the particularly insightful ones from the audience. This lively exchange explored many aspects of his career and offered a behind-the-scenes look at his role as sports director with the German team Lidl-Trek.

Exclusive content for the audience

The evening also featured two short films produced by Lidl-Trek’s communications team, offering further insight into the team’s inner workings and the realities of modern professional cycling.

Cycling Evening #2: Lio welcomes Tom Paquot

The Maison du Cyclisme will welcome its second guest on 24 February: Tom Paquot, the young cyclist from Huy who unfortunately had to end his career at the close of last season.

A talented young rider with an already remarkable career

Having ridden for Wallonie-Bruxelles and later Intermarché-Wanty, Tom Paquot will look back on his professional cycling career—shorter than Maxime Monfort’s, but full of valuable experiences and lessons.

An insight into the realities of cycling’s younger generation

During this talk, he will discuss the challenges facing the new generation of cyclists:

  • managing sporting ambitions,
  • keeping their passion alive in an extremely demanding environment,
  • coping with the demands of elite sport,
  • dealing with performance-related pressures.

The challenges facing young Walloon and Belgian riders

Tom Paquot will also address a crucial issue: the difficulties young Walloon and Belgian riders face in securing—and then keeping—a place in the professional peloton. His valuable insight will shed light on the realities of modern cycling, where opportunities are scarce and competition is fierce.

Practical information for the evening with Tom Paquot

Doors will open at 7:30 pm, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the museum and meet the guest before the talk begins.
