“La Joie du Sport”: an art exhibition at the Maison du Cyclisme

From 14 September to the end of October, surprising creations will appear throughout the Maison du Cyclisme Liège-Bastogne-Liège in Remouchamps.

Some will have an obvious connection with bicycles and cycling, while others will evoke different sports. Sculptures, ceramics, paintings and photographs will take their place among the jerseys, bicycles and objects that usually make up the museum’s collections.

An exhibition within an exhibition

This original initiative is the result of a collaboration between Les Gad’lis, the municipality of Aywaille and the Maison du Cyclisme.

The idea? To create a genuine exhibition within an exhibition. Works created by members of the Gad’lis workshops will temporarily occupy the museum’s spaces and display cases, without replacing the items normally on show.

Visitors will be able to discover the Maison du Cyclisme’s cycling collections from a fresh perspective, observing the dialogue between the museum’s objects and the artworks.

The Gad’lis artists take over the museum

Les Gad’lis — a nickname given to the inhabitants of Remouchamps — have their workshops on Rue de la Reffe. The works coming to the Maison du Cyclisme were previously displayed there during the open weekend held over the weekend of 5 September.

The theme of that event was “La Joie du Sport”, or “The Joy of Sport”. A particularly fitting theme to continue at the Maison du Cyclisme, where sporting heritage and cycling history take centre stage.

When art meets sport and cycling

Through their sculptures, ceramics, paintings and photographs, the artists offer their own interpretations of sport, its movements and the emotions it inspires.

This temporary exhibition will build bridges between different worlds: art and sport, culture and cycling, as well as contemporary creativity and sporting heritage.

Regular visitors will have the opportunity to see the Maison du Cyclisme’s spaces in a new light. Art lovers, meanwhile, will discover the museum’s permanent collections in an original and unexpected setting.
